Program in Mind Body Research

About us

The PMBR brings together a multidisciplinary network of scientists and clinicians interested in Mind-Body medicine, Complementary medicine, and neuroscience to promote collaborative research and education projects. The PMBR sponsors and supports research studies, academic and community seminars and training fellowships in Mind-Body research.

Collaborations

The CNS PMBR has ongoing collaborations with a variety of UCLA and community programs involved in Mind-Body activities.

  • MARC The Mindful Awareness Research Center fosters mindful awareness across the lifespan through education and research to promote well-being and a more compassionate society. marc.ucla.edu
  • UCLA CCIM The UCLA Collaborative Centers for Integrative Medicine (CCIM) is a campus-wide program committed to the study and application of integrative medicine. The CCIM sponsors public and professional education, facilitates research and promotes appropriate practice of complementary, alternative, and mind-body medicine. www.ccim.med.ucla.edu
  • CEWM The UCLA Center for East-West Medicine provides comprehensive care with emphasis on health promotion, disease prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation through the integrated practice of East-West medicine. www.cewm.med.ucla.edu
  • Emperors College A Professional Graduate School of Traditional Oriental Medicine. www.emperors.edu
  • The UCLA Cousins Center brings together research expertise in the behavioral sciences, neuroscience and immunology to understand the interplay of psychological and biological factors in disease and how the resiliency of the human body can be aided by positive behaviors, attitudes and emotions. www.mattel.ucla.edu/pedspain
  • The UCLA Pediatric Pain Program offers state-of-the-art medicine in combination with the regenerative power of complementary therapies to treat children suffering from chronic pain. Patients choose from a variety of healing modalities ranging from acupuncture to art therapy. The staff works as a team to develop an individualized approach for each child that involves active participation of the child and family. Collective wisdom and coordinated care greatly enhance the effectiveness of treatment.

Support

The CNS PMBR funds its ongoing programs through research grants and community participation. We are especially grateful for the ongoing generous involvement of the Oppenheimer Family Foundation for initiation and support of CAIM Pilot and Feasibility program. (See more information and current awardees.)

PMRB investigators are also supported by grants from the Samueli Foundation, the NIH and the Veteran’s Administration Research Service.
